Technology Leadership

Founded in 2001, Velocys is a leader in the field of microchannel process technology. This leadership began in the mid-1990s at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, a U.S. Department of Energy facility operated by Velocys' parent Battelle Memorial Institute. From the mid-1990s through today, Battelle, government agencies and industrial partners have invested over $100 million into Velocys' proprietary microchannel technology platform.

An Accomplished Team

When Battelle formed Velocys, many of the original scientists and engineers who pioneered the field of microchannel technology at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and Battelle made the leap to the new company. This team's accomplishments include:

  • Successfully scaling up a microchannel Fischer-Tropsch synthesis reactor for the production of synthetic fuels and operating the reactor for 1,000+ hours
  • Completing demonstrations of high-temperature and high-pressure microchannel steam reformer for large-scale hydrogen production
  • Demonstrating the robustness of Velocys' proprietary microchannel architecture by completing an 8,000+ hour test
  • Constructing large microchannel devices using high precision, cost effective, mass production techniques
