Our technology centre located in Plain City near Columbus, Ohio is the company's largest facility.
All reactor design, development and manufacturing management activities are based in Ohio, as are the reactor and catalyst testing teams. It is also the location of the Velocys Pilot Plant (VPP), which has been a key part of the proving of our technology performance.
After successful completion of extensive tests establishing the operating parameters for optimum performance over a wide range of feed compositions the VPP is currently in standby mode. This has freed up experienced operators and engineers who now, as planned, form the core of the start-up team for ENVIA' GTL plant. The VPP remains available for specific client-supported studies, as a permanent training facility for plant operators and to demonstrate future product generations, as required.
The catalyst testing group enjoys the use of a well-resourced facility with 12 reactor test systems and an analytical chemistry laboratory where 90% of syngas composition and Fischer-Tropsch product analysis are completed in-house. This smaller scale test equipment is used to complement the VPP, for example to define syngas quality requirements and address the impact of customer-specific operating conditions on product composition.
The in-house reactor design and modelling team uses a suite of state-of-the-art computer hardware that allows the processing of many computationally demanding calculations in parallel.
