Velocys' Board of Directors includes GTL experts as well as individuals with a deep knowledge of oil and gas markets worldwide and contacts at the highest level of the industry.

Members of our senior management team come from diverse backgrounds and bring multiple specialisms to the company. The team, which includes founding members of Velocys, has a strong entrepreneurial track record and extensive experience of technical and business unit management, gained at companies including BOC, BP, Esso, Phillips Petroleum, Sasol, Bain, GE, Chevron and Syntroleum.

David Pummell
Chief Executive Officer

Biographical details

With over 30 years of energy and oil industry experience, David joined Velocys from ACAL Energy Ltd, a private equity backed fuel cell technology company developing products for the automotive and stationary power sectors, where he was CEO.

Prior to this, David was CEO of MAPS Technology Ltd, where he successfully commercialised the technology leading to its subsequent acquisition by GE, before becoming CEO of Ceres Power Group plc, a developer of fuel cell micro combined heat and power (CHP) products for the domestic stationary power sector. He began his career at BP plc as a chemical engineer before going on to hold a number of executive positions across the downstream business, including petrochemical manufacturing, supply chain, new business start-ups and a number of senior business and functional management roles during his 22 year tenure. David has a first class BSc Honours degree in chemical engineering.

Susan Robertson

Biographical details

Susan came to Velocys from the BOC Group (now Linde Group) where she had held various senior-level financial management and business development positions since 1990. Susan helped to set up and then, from 2003 to 2006, served as Vice President and CFO of Japan Air Gases (JAG), a joint venture between The BOC Group and Air Liquide which was one of Japan's leading industrial gas companies. Prior to taking up her position with JAG, she held finance positions with BOC in Japan, the UK and globally, as well as strategic and business development roles in the UK. Susan has an honours degree in economics from Cambridge University and is a chartered accountant (FCA) having originally trained with Arthur Andersen in London.

Dr Paul F. Schubert  
Chief Operating Officer

Biographical details

Paul has 35 years of experience in the petrochemical and natural gas industry. He has held various technical and general management roles with SGS Group, Syntroleum Corporation, Catalytica, Phillips Petroleum, and Engelhard Corporation. In these positions he was responsible for day-to-day operations, process development and commercialization, plant design, and asset integrity management.

Paul is the inventor or co-inventor of 16 US Patents covering processes for production of synthetic fuels, polyolefins, sulphur removal from gas streams, dimerisation, dehydrogenation, and chemical recycling. He is also the author of over 40 publications. Paul holds a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, and a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.
