John Tunison, an experienced interim CFO, recently joined the company.
With over 20 years of finance, consulting, project management and operations experience, John will join Velocys after holding Interim CFO roles in several companies in the technology, wastewater treatment and chemicals sectors, where he led the finance function through organisational changes and process improvements and raised private, venture and debt capital.
Prior to this, John was CFO – Chemicals at Ascend Performance Materials, a specialty chemicals manufacturer, where he built out a finance function and developed strategy and tactics to grow the profitability by 100% for a newly created Chemicals Business Unit. He was also VP Finance at Univar, a global chemical distributor, where he spearheaded the start-up of a new Oil, Gas & Mining Business Unit, including migration of functions and consolidation of all financial reporting. As VP Finance for Univar's Environmental Sciences business, he led the procurement, pricing and customer service/inside sales functions and grew the top and bottom lines by over 10% for two years.
Before that he held several senior finance roles at Shell in its Downstream Manufacturing and Lubricants businesses and was an Internal Management Consultant/Project Leader in its Downstream Management Consultancy, based in the UK. John started his career as a US Navy Nuclear Submarine Officer and holds a BS in Political Science from the US Naval Academy and an MBA in Finance from the University of Rhode Island.
