Velocys launches AlphaCore™ 800 for larger-scale SAF and e-fuels projects
September 21, 2026
Velocys has expanded its Fischer-Tropsch reactor roadmap with AlphaCore™ 800, its highest-capacity microchannel FT reactor to date and a product designed specifically for the larger sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and e-fuels projects now emerging globally.
AlphaCore 800 is designed to produce up to 800 barrels per day, or approximately 30 kt/a, of Fischer-Tropsch liquids from a single reactor. It extends the AlphaCore product family from approximately 50 to 800 barrels per day per reactor and is particularly suited to SAF plants targeting 100+ kt/a of production.
The objective behind the AlphaCore roadmap is straightforward: more FT capacity per reactor, enabling fewer reactors as project scale increases.
For project developers, reducing reactor count can simplify the Fischer-Tropsch island, reduce associated equipment requirements and lower FT unit cost while building on Velocys’ established microchannel technology platform and operating experience.
The effect becomes increasingly significant as projects grow. An FT unit requiring approximately 1,600 barrels per day, or 60 kt/a, of FT liquids could use two AlphaCore 800 reactors instead of eight AlphaCore 200 reactors, a 75% reduction in reactor count for the same FT liquids capacity.
AlphaCore 800 joins AlphaCore 50, 200 and 400 to create a throughput-based Fischer-Tropsch reactor family using the same core technology across multiple project scales and syngas pathways.
The new reactor is being announced as the sustainable fuels industry gathers in Hong Kong for Sustainable Aviation Futures China, where developers, technology providers and investors are considering the next generation of commercial-scale SAF and e-fuels projects across China and the wider Asian market.
AlphaCore 800 at a glance
Technology: Microchannel Fischer-Tropsch reactor
FT liquids capacity: Up to 800 bpd / approximately 30 kt/a per reactor
Primary application: Larger SAF, e-fuels and synthetic fuels projects
SAF project scale: Particularly suited to 100+ kt/a plants
AlphaCore family: AlphaCore 50, 200, 400 and 800
Roadmap objective: More capacity per reactor, enabling fewer reactors at larger scale
Velocys is expanding its AlphaCore Fischer-Tropsch reactor family for the next generation of larger SAF and e-fuels projects.
AlphaCore 800 provides up to approximately 800 barrels per day, or 30,000 tonnes per year of FT liquids from a single reactor.
For projects targeting 100,000 tonnes per year of SAF and above, more capacity per reactor means fewer reactors, simpler FT configuration, and lower FT unit cost.
AlphaCore 50, 200, 400. And now, AlphaCore 800.
More capacity. Fewer reactors.
