“I recently joined Velocys and brought with me over 15 years of engineering experience specializing in pressure vessel design and analysis. Prior to joining the company, I performed reactor engineering design and analysis for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, developed performance monitoring, maintenance programs, and asset management plans for a commercial nuclear power plant for Exelon, and worked in aerospace R&D design and analysis for Northrop Grumman.
My key role here is to manage the reactor vessel program and provide technology and manufacturing engineering design and analysis expertise to meet and exceed customer expectations.
I am proud to work for Velocys and everyone has been so welcoming. Each day is different and the interactions both internally and externally bring with it stimulating collaboration and tangible results.
The company has a unique, demonstrated at commercial scale technology that can be readily used in the airline industry to decrease our use of fossil fuels and continuously improve the environment around us and for future generations to come.”
“When I came across Velocys I was immediately drawn to the ethos and essence of what the company stood for and its distinctive contribution to helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. I started my role in the finance department in 2020 and work closely with my colleagues in Oxford to support the business and its projects.
During my career I have accumulated much knowledge and expertise in finance, which in turn adds to the combined skills of my associates to create an efficient and adaptable function in-line with business needs. There are set financial activities on a regular basis to undertake such as managing and delivering accounting processes and being responsible for our ERP system. I also help to prepare, develop, and deliver insightful management reporting versus the long-term budget and provide support for financial business decision making.
Outside of management reporting, my position entails working closely with our payroll provider to ensure proper and timely reports are submitted for payroll processing. Alongside payroll, maintaining employee profiles with our pension brokers to which they are kept accurate and up to date. Finally, assisting fellow Velocys employees wherever I can.
Prior to my career at Velocys, I worked 10 years in public accounting in both tax and audit sectors. Through this opportunity, I was given the chance to increase my skill sets as well as increase my understanding of growing businesses through the exposure to different companies. I moved from public accounting to corporate accounting where I have been for 6 years. I have enjoyed working the accounting pathway I have chosen, for it has led me to where I am at with Velocys.
I find each day interesting and enjoy the international interactions the company offers. The culture at Velocys is one of inclusion, sharing of ideas and an environment of creativity. I strongly enjoy each day working at Velocys.”
“I joined Velocys in 2017 after working at BP for 25 years as a Process Engineer in technology development and commercialisation within their Refining and Petrochemicals divisions. This experience allowed me to bring to Velocys my Syngas and FT capability to an area that is so relevant in the current era for decarbonisation and sustainability. I spent time developing the engineering flow scheme from waste to SAF, learning from my colleagues in the commercial and waste areas, and guiding our engineering and licensing partners. It has been an exciting and educational journey as waste is such a variable feedstock and the challenges it brings.
But at Velocys there is a real team effort and we have together achieved and overcome the technical challenges faced. The company very much feels like a team rather than an organisation. Along with my colleagues we take the time to get to know each other and understand perspectives building on each other’s strengths centred around trust.
It is a privilege to play a direct role in supporting Velocys in advising UK government on waste management and renewable fuels, and a clear representation on how engineering helps to develop our economies towards a more sustainable future.”
